LACMA Art Parade in Los Angeles, California by Mary Cummins

The LACMA Art Parade and event was June 20, 2026 at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art located at 5905 Wilshire Blvd, Los Angeles, California. There were about 1,400 participants in the actual parade from over 100 groups.

"The Art Parade is a large-scale public celebration marking the opening of the David Geffen Galleries. In a public procession on Museum Row/Wilshire Blvd, the parade showcases mobile sculptures, costumes, banners, inflatables, music, and movement-based works that activate public space through collective artistic expression."

Conceived two decades ago by influential art dealer and curator Jeffrey Deitch, The Art Parade ran annually in New York's SoHo from 2005 to 2008, bringing together more than 1,000 participants each year in a creative procession that transformed the streets into a living gallery.

This Los Angeles edition marks a pivotal moment in LACMA's history and for the city itself. The opening of the David Geffen Galleries culminates a two-decade campus transformation, with the new Peter Zumthor-designed building adding 110,000 square feet of gallery space and creating 3.5 acres of new outdoor public space at LACMA.

The Art Parade both celebrates this cultural moment and underlines LACMA's longstanding commitment to celebrating artists, presenting art in public spaces, and engaging broad and diverse audiences."

Below is an 11 minute video of parts of the parade. The parade lasted from 6-7:15 pm.

Long Beach 5th International Tamale Festival in Long Beach, California by Mary Cummins Maria Rivera

The 5th annual Long Beach International Tamale Festival took place in Long Beach, California on December 7, 2025. The event was held at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center at 855 Elm Ave. Long Beach, CA 90813  from 1:00 to 7:00 pm.

There were lots of award winning tamales, Mexican food, vendors, tequila tasting, micheladas, folklorico dancers, Santa Claus and more. The event was outdoors in the 57,000 sf parking lot behind the Scottish Rite Masonic Center. VIP ticket holders didn't have to wait. General Admission visitors had to wait in a long line that wrapped around the block because they had to check IDs because the event served alcohol. I got there at 1:30 and didn't get in for 40 minutes because of the line. General Admission was supposed to be free if you registered but they ended up charging people $15 each to get in. VIP was $75 maybe. Thankfully I had a free ticket.

There were lots of people at the event early just like me. In fact there were so many people that there weren't enough places to sit and eat. The VIP had their own area which was totally empty. There were lines for tamales at a few of the tamale booths.

The tamales were the best I've ever had! They all charged the same $6 each but these tamales were HUGE! They had beef, pork, chicken, vegetarian, vegan, corn, cheese and dessert tamales like strawberry, pineapple and cheesecake. The churro vendor made the most amazing desserts! They were $15 but they were huge on mini waffles or in huge waffle cones with everything.

The Scottish Rite Masonic Center used to be the Ernest Borgnine Theatre. It's a historical building built in 1926.

Downtown Los Angeles Dia de Muertos event at Grand Central Market by Maria Rivera, Mary Cummins

November 2, 2025 was Downtown Los Angeles' first Dia de los Muertos event at the Grand Central Market. I only checked out the Grand Central Market part of the event. I assumed the streets would be closed for the event because of the procession map. They were not. The Aztec dancers just danced the three blocks to the Grand Market on the crowded sidewalk. Turns out there was a little more room where they started at LATC. The musicians and booths for the event were in street parking spots in front of the market. I didn't explore the vendors in the basement or go to the rooftop event. It looked like the "rooftop" event was on top of a parking structure based on the photos. There was more going on in those areas. jewlzanahuac won the catrina contest in a gorgeous dress, headdress and makeup. She also danced and marched in the Aztec procession. She's a member of the Aztec dance group who danced at the event.
