Yesterday October 26, 2024 was the 25th Annual Dia de los Muertos, Day of the Dead event at Hollywood Forever cemetery in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California. The Lady of the Dead theme this year was "Spirit Guides and Guardians ~ Tonas y Nahuales."

Weather was perfect for the event at 75 to 78 degrees F. Ticket prices rose from $35 to $55 so it wasn't quite as busy as previous years. Vendor prices also increased so there were fewer vendors. This was still the biggest Dia de Muertos party in California if not the US.

There were multiple simultaneous stages of music and dance entertainment. An art exhibit was in the mausoleum. Altars were spread out around the cemetery. The catrinas Catrina Christina, Janan Beltran, Claritsa were amazing! Makeup artist H&MUA was incredible as always by @livierveralopez @hmuastudio .

Below are some photos which I took of the event. I was there from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. I missed the Catrina contest :-( @veronica.ohyeah76 won 1st Catrina Divina @catrinadivinaoficial won 2nd @yesi_mex was 3rd. It looks like they had one "costume contest" this year instead of two different catrina and night time theme contests.

Dia dia los Muertos event at Gloria Molina Grand Avenue Park was October 19 to November 2, 2024. I attended the opening day events with music, dance, poetry readings and altar. Lots of beautiful altars, ofrendas made by talented altar artists.
